Silent myocardial infarction: a case report

ABSTRACT

Coronary heart disease remains being one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity in developed countries. There are few cases of silent acute myocardial infarction described in the literature. Silent heart attack affects one out of five people with infarction, and is more common in diabetics. The objective of this study is to present a case report of silent infarction in a 77-year-old male patient who came to the emergency department, referring coldness in the upper limbs. Electrocardiogram and cardiac enzymes showed the presence of an acute myocardial infarction. After treatment with streptokinase the patient evolved favorably demonstrating the effectiveness of the treatment through the electrocardiogram. A diagnosis and early treatment in this type of heart attack guarantees a better survival and quality of life.
