ABSTRACT

The aim of this work consisted in studying the depression in children who have witnessed violence in the street currently living in Ciudad Juarez. The hypothesis we expect children witnessed violence on the streets get higher scores on scales of depression than the control group, which did not witness any violence. The sample consisted of 59 children of boys / girls aged 7 and 12 years old. Twenty-nine of them had witnessed some extreme violent event on the streets (assaults, shootings, people gunshot wound and / or arguments). The remaining 30 were part of the control group. The following instruments were applied: Questionnaire of exposure to violence (CEV), Interview parents ad hoc, Questionnaire of child depression (CDI), ad hoc Questionnaire Mood (EA) and the Four Factor Index of Social Status. The results found that the depression scale (CDI) were higher in the study group than in the control group.
