ABSTRACT

A descriptive, ambipective and longitudinal study was performed on the epithelial cysts of the pancreas in the Guantanamo population of the General Teaching Hospital Dr. Agostinho Neto de Guantánamo during 1990 to 2015, with the objective of characterizing aspects related to the epithelial cysts of the pancreas in patients graduates of the General Surgery Service. The variables were analyzed: operated patients, nonoperated, age groups, sex, symptomatology, predominant clinical element, tumor location, tumor size, histological type and surgical technique. The presence of operated patients with respect to the nonoperated ones, and among them the female ones, was emphasized. There is a predominance of symptomatic patients compared to asymptomatic patients. The predominant clinical element was epigastralgia in tumors located in the body of the pancreas. The most commonly used surgical technique was distal pancreatectomy with splenectomy.
