ABSTRACT

To know the students’ opinions about the advantages and inconveniencies of using a virtual classroom in a regular course of the medicine career, and to receive their suggestions regarding changes in the virtual classroom and their free comments, a 4 questions open-ended survey was applied to 293 medical students of the cycle III, after working with a blended-learning modality during a semester. The main advantages identified by the students were access to didactic material (32%), and help in organizing their activities (26%). The major inconveniencies were technical problems (35%), and lack of Internet access (12%). Regarding suggestions of changes, 21% of the participants suggested leaving the virtual classroom as it is, and 11% eliminating evaluations among peers. In the free comments section, 37% of the participants described their experience using the virtual classroom with adjectives such as “likeable”, or “satisfactory”, and 14% commented about the aid to organize their activities provided by the virtual classroom. In conclusion, the good acceptation of the blending learning modality by the medical students was corroborated. The results encourage continuing using the modality in future courses.
