ABSTRACT

Introduction: since ancient times there have been several theories that try to explain the beginning alcohol consumption, although its ingestion has always been linked with celebrations, even religious, and can be read in the Bible. Noah worked the land and planted a vineyard, then drank the wine and became intoxicated; nowadays this custom has become a universal custom, consequences which have a wide physical, psychological and social impact.
Objective: to describe factors that affect alcohol addiction, in patients of a health area in Niquero municipality in 2013.
Method: it was carried out a descriptive cross-section study with the objective of describing factors that affect in the alcohol addiction in patients of a health area in Niquero municipality during 2013. The universe was constituted of 135 patients about 15 years or older who were diagnosed as alcohol drinkers. The information was collected through clinical histories and personal interviews.
Results: patients drinkers at risk prevailed in the aged among 15 and 24 years, with more incidence in males, with a secondary level of education, taste was the source of motivation to drink alcohol, leaning on young people who began with this addiction among 15 and 24 years, prevailing in dysfunctional families, without social, labor or family impact, despite of such dangerous custom that attempt against the social.
Conclusions: the greater numbers of patients are within drinkers of risk; it was proved that abusive drinkers predominated among 35 and 44 years, with more incidences in males.
