ABSTRACT

Pharmacological treatment of rheumatic diseases has given priority to non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in the last decades.
Objective: to present the main recommendations contained in the scientific literature on the indication of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. currently used more regularly in clinical rheumatology.
Development: between September and December 2016, in order to access the scientific publications that are currently presented both in the virtual space and in the specialized libraries, a systematic search was made selecting the library of the Central University of Ecuador, Medline, PubMed and Cochrane as primary sources of information containing research work. A search strategy was outlined using the terms "update on the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in rheumatology" and "recommendations on the indication of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs in rheumatology". Other search criteria were current information - pertaining to the last 5 years - and the preferred languages: Spanish and English. Between 10 and 30 documents that could be classified as scientific articles, textbooks and other publications were retrieved.
Conclusions: in summary, literature points at a wide range of possibilities for the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. in the treatment of rheumatic processes, and to the usefulness of recommendations, based on scientific evidence, on the indication of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. currently and regularly used in rheumatologic clinical practice. These allow a rational use of these drugs and promote the improvement of health care quality. However, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. prescription will always depend on the clinical situation and the specific patient, as well as the specialist clinical judgment. To enhance the latter, it is essential to know the treatment alternatives that have stood out over the last years, specific to the approach of rheumatologic diseases.
