ABSTRACT

The aim of this study is to understand and analyze the incidence, etiology, type of fracture, age, gender, management, complications and post-treatment results of patients with mandibular fractures treated at the Centenario Miguel Hidalgo Hospital of Specialties, in the state of Aguascalientes. A retrospective review of the files, X-rays and tomographies of all the patients admitted to the Department of Maxillofacial Surgery from July 1997 to March 2015 was performed. During the period of this study, a total of 493 patients was admitted and treated with mandibular fractures, 379 of those were men and 114 women. The majority of injuries were due to violence and patients were most commonly treated for parasymphysis fractures. At this hospital, the most performed and effective treatment with minimal complications was osteosynthesis and internal rigid fixation, and the most common surgical complication was infection.
