ABSTRACT

Objective. To know the refusal and acceptation causes as to the donation process of the Hospital Juárez de México. Methods. Observational, Retrospective and Descriptive study. The answers of acceptation or refusal of donation of 38 patients with a cerebral death diagnosis in the Hospital Juárez de México were analized from June 2 of 2001 to June 17 of 2004. Results. Out of 38 families that were asked, 24 accepted the donation; this means a 63.15%, but 14 families did not accept the donation; this means a 36.85%. Conclusion. The results of these analisis show us the great impact but information campaigns about the organ donation made by the Hospital coordination department along with the kidney Transplant Service of the Hospital. Discussion. Identifying the No donation causes and sorting them depending the origin (religious, economic, social, etc.) is important because these causes help to work at the hospital with the objective of having a bigger number of donations.
