intestinal occlusion, small bowel volvulus.

ABSTRACT

Mechanical intestinal occlusion is a recurrent disease in surgical services; however, small bowel volvulus is one of its rare etiologic causes. We present a case of intestinal occlusion due to ileum volvulus in a male patient of 63 years. The diagnosis could only be confirmed in the operative act, where a volvulus was found that took practically all the ileum. As a technique, intestinal resection of the entire affected segment and end-to-side ileotransversostomy was performed. The patient progressed satisfactorily, he graduated without difficulty and was systematically followed up in an outpatient clinic.
