Fixion centromedullary nail in long bone diaphyseal fractures treatment

ABSTRACT

Introduction. Long bone diaphyseal fractures are treated with centromedullary nail since 1883, scientist evolution through the years has modified and improved techniques and implants to obtain better results. Material and methods. A prospective, observational, clinic study was made from november 2001 to july 2004 in Hospital Juárez de México’s Orthopedics and Traumatology Service. Results. We applied 50 fixion expansive centromedullary nails in patients with long bone diaphyseal fractures. Age: 19-72 years. Average: 45.5 years. Male patients: 32 (64%). Female patients: 18 (36%). Long bone diaphyseal fractures treatment, and the use of steel to manufacture implants have been proven in multiple studies throughout internal fixation history, generally with good results.
