Desmoplastic small round cell tumor: an unusual case in soft tissues

ABSTRACT

The desmoplastic small round cell tumor is an uncommon and aggressive entity that belongs to the family known as small round blue cell tumors. This tumor frequently affects children and young men, and has a classic intra-abdominal location. Histologically it is characterized by small and round cells, arranged in nests or cords, immersed in a dense desmoplastic stroma. In immunohistochemistry co-expresses epithelial, mesenchymal and neural markers, but is especially characterized by positivity for the Wilms tumor protein (WT1). The following is a case of desmoplastic small round cell tumor with an unusual clinical presentation.
