ABSTRACT

Objective: Evaluate the impact of a four-month nutritional education strategy for preschoolers in rural communities. Material and methods: Quasi-experimental study with 62 children from two to five years of age. The nutritional status was evaluated before and after the intervention. Educational material was distributed and educational workshops were held. Results: We found 19 patients with malnutrition (with malnutrition or overweight/obesity) in the first consultation. There was no significant difference in the percentage of subjects with malnutrition (p = 0.289), weight above normal (p = 0.508) or without malnutrition (p = 0.143) after the intervention. Conclusions: This intervention failed to improve the nutrition status of preschool children in rural communities.
