ABSTRACT

The utero-vaginal or Mullerian anomalies are a group of congenital diseases that are caused by a defect in the development, merger or channeling of Mullerian ducts in the embryonic stage, in exceptional cases may be due to an acquired alteration. Imperforate hymen is a congenital anomaly of female genital development. Despite being the most common obstructive anomaly it has an estimated incidence of 0.1% of newborn usually in the presence of cyclical abdominal pain in an adolescent who has not presented menarche. We report the case of a 14 year old with an imperforate hymen virgin with a history of good health, pain in lower abdomen cyclically. Clinical and radiological exams were done and an imperforate hymen was the diagnosis. Incision of the hymen membrane with evacuation of bloody content was performed. No complications and was discharged with satisfactory medical follow-up.
