ABSTRACT

A descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted to describe chronic inflammatory periodontal disease in 57 obese adult patients. Gender, age, body mass index, oral hygiene, periodontal condition, disease severity and dislypidemia were the variables studied. Among the main results of the study, 66.7 % of the obese were periodontal patients; 45.6 % had grade II according to the obesity classification. Periodontitis predominated when analysing disease severity. Oral hygiene was regular or bad in most of the patients. Periodontal disease appeared in greater number in obese ones who suffered from dislypidemia.
