ABSTRACT

The scope of the study was to associate the ergonomic conditions of the post with the musculoskeletal disorders in sales personnel of a department store in Jalisco , Mexico . We performed a cross-sectional, observational and analytical study. We used two instruments: an ergonomic risk questionnaire and the Nordic Questionnaire for the detection of musculoskeletal disorders. Subsequently, functional tests were applied to detect signs of injury in workers in the sales area of a department store. In the survey participated 164 floor sellers, participation of the subjects was voluntary. It was considered a criterion of exclusion that the workers had some degenerative diseases like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases; as well as lower limb surgeries such as hip, knee or ankle. The results of the study indicate that workers reported pain in the neck (50%), upper back (34.3%), lower back (51%), knees (32.4%) and ankles (31.4%). The clothing department reported more signs of musculoskeletal injury on the knees and ankles (in the Lackman test on the right knee four people were positive for 9, Lackman on the left knee five positive on 7, six on the right knee rebound on 8, Rebound in left knee four positives of 7). Statistically significant difference was found between the presence of discomfort during the last 12 months in the following areas: neck (X2=15.035, p<0.001), high back ( X2=9.256, p=0.002) and lower back (X2=23.764, p<0.001). We concluded that the standing position with little movement for long periods of time is not significantly related to the presence of symptoms or signs of musculoskeletal injury.
