Educational intervention on suicide in familiars or tutors of adolescents of a health area, 2017

ABSTRACT

Introduction: the suicide attempt in adolescents and young people have increased considerably, the family plays an important role in the conduct of this fatal act. Objective: to design an educational intervention on suicide addressed to relatives or guardians of adolescents from a health area of Mártires 8 de Abril de Quemado de Guines Polyclinic in order to raise their knowledge. Method: a cross-sectional descriptive study was carried out with a design proposal for an educational intervention. The universe consisted of 30 members of the family (mother, father or guardian) of adolescents; the sample was structured by 25 members who agreed to participate in the study. Results: in relation to the knowledge about the definition of suicide, 100% of the answers were evaluated badly, in terms of the identification of people at risk, it was found that almost 50% obtained regular evaluations, about the behavior to follow a person with a suicidal idea, 40% was evaluated badly, in terms of myths and realities related to suicidal behavior, more than 70% obtained regular evaluations, the perception of a patient who has made a suicide attempt was evaluated bad in more than 65%.Conclusions: the evaluated knowledge of regular and poor was highlighted, an educational program was designed about suicide in relatives or guardians of adolescents from a health area, assessed as pertinent, feasible, on a methodological basis and defined objectives for its implementation and subsequent evaluation.
