ABSTRACT
The traumatic bone cyst is a pathologic bone cavity that is free of epitelial lining, in its interior its common to find a straw colored fluid of bright blood. It’s found more frecuently in long bones and far less frecuently in jaw bones. The etiology is uncertain but it’s been associated with facial trauma, causing intramedular bleeding and bone lysis. Here we present two cases diagnosed and treated in the National Institute of Pediatrics where we found a traumatic bone cyst in the jaw, related with trauma history in both cases. The purpose of the present work is to emphasize the importance of a complete radiographic evaluation in a patient with facial trauma history, since traumatic bone cyst is an asymptomatic condition that is often diagnosed as a radiographic finding. This paper also intends to review this condition and its characteristics, its management and its prognosis.
