Gait training using Robowalk-Expander and CON-TREX systems in hemiplegic patients

ABSTRACT

Objective: To determine if gait training using the RoboWalk-Expander and CONTREX systems in hemiplegic patients has better results than conventional training.
Method: An explanatory and experimental study was conducted in 32 patients diagnosed with stroke admitted to the Hospital de Rehabilitación "Julio Díaz González" Centro de Referencia Nacional, from April 2016 to April 2017. All were evaluated before and after the treatment by muscle strength measured by the CON-TREX, motor and functional capacity. By Berg scale and muscle tone for knee flexion-extension by Ashworth scale. Interval estimation, contrast of parametric hypothesis and Pearson linear correlation were performed.
Results: Patients with ischemic stroke predominated (87, 5 % in the experimental group and 81,2 % in the control group), female sex (56,3 % in both groups) between 40 and 59 years (62,5 % in the experimental group). and 50% the control group) and the subacute stage (68,7 % the experimental group and 62,5 % the control group). The patients showed satisfactory evolution with conventional treatment, but the high percentages of satisfactory results (75 %) were highlighted in those who were trained with the RoboWalk-Expander and Con-Trex Systems.
Conclusions: Walk training is effective with RoboWalk-Expander systems in hemiplegic patients. CON-TREX® equipment is suitable for scientific use thanks to its high levels of precision and analysis.
