Perception about the internship in health promotion as a primary health care strategy

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Higher education institutions include in their vision the continuous improvement; they look for professional growth permitting the academic mobility to enrich knowledge and which allows them to participate in scientific debates responding to a programmed content, as it is the case of the internship, which aims to bring closer and increase the relationships between higher education centers, for the reciprocal support in the elevation of the teaching educational process, covering academic, scientific and cultural aspects in topics of mutual interest and benefit, generally, and promotes cultural development and spreading and, particularly, the development of higher teaching, and scientific and technologic research.
Objective: Strengthen the academic and investigative interchange with national and international institutions and organizations in relation with health education and promotion, changes of behavior and social communication, among others.
Methods: The internship was described, through the perception of the participants with experience in the field of primary health care and health promotion.
Results: The interns' perception and satisfaction in the process was excellent, which was proved by the learning dynamism and empowerment. They managed to experience the detailed structure and organization of the Cuban health system, broadening their perspective about public policies health and education in the Cuban system. They experienced the primary health care services, since the humanization of the latter ones.
Conclusion: The internship is the mechanism to interchange knowledge and structure networks that facilitates research with the participation of specialists.
