ABSTRACT

The care of terminal patients is a priority for health professionals and health system authorities due to population aging, the increase of oncological and chronic-degenerative diseases, and longer patient survival especially seniors. The law of Advance Directive is a relatively new document in México which supports the right of any person to express their will in relation to decision-making at terminal stage and procure refusing life sustaining treatment. This law applies when patients are in terminal stage and can not express themselves. The aim of this paper is to review the fundamentals of the advance directive law approved at Mexico City.
