ABSTRACT

Introducción: The use of medications without adequate studies that support its security produces terrible disasters. Pharmacovigilance was established for detecting, quantifying and preventing the adverse effects that appear related with the administration of medications. Adverse drug reactions occur frequently in medical practice and it constitute a motive of consultation, hospitable admission, disability and death.
Objective: To characterize the adverse drug reactions reported in Banes during the period from January to July 2016.
Material and Methods: An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted. The universe was 209 patients reported with adverse drug reactions in the studied period. The specific objectives were met using descriptive statistics: distribution of absolute, relative and percentage frequencies in form of tables.
Results: Adverse drug reactions were more frequent in adults (51%), in females (72%), mild in 66% of reports, associated with drugs produced by MedSol (32%), with predominance of antimicrobials (32%) and the institution that more reports carried out was Darío Calzadilla Polyclinic (63%).
Conclusions: It is essential for health professionals to be in conditions of facing the growing appearance of adverse drug reactions in a market saturated with therapeutic alternatives. The results of the study stipulate variations with respect to the literature on the behavior of Adverse Drug Reactions.
