ABSTRACT

Hematopoietic stem cell transplantation aims to reestablish the bone marrow and immune function of patients with malignant and benign hematologic disorders. One of the methods used to assess the graft status is the determination of chimerism. The immunohematological follow-up of a patient who underwent bidirectional ABO incompatible hematopoietic stem cell transplantation for acute lymphoblastic leukemia is presented for the reader to understand the relevance of blood group determination and adequate transfusion practices in these patients in order to avoid hemolytic transfusion reactions and loss of the graft.
