ABSTRACT

Introduction: Fidel Castro Ruz's thought has been an strategic guide for the development of Cuban medical education. His permanent study is made of in inexcusable premise for the achievement of human resources in health with quality and pertinence.
Objective: To analyze Fidel's thought like referent for the development of medical education and of the professionals resources in Cuban National Health System.
Methods: An historic & social study accomplished Fidel's thought on professional developing in medical education through the analysis of contents of Fidel Castro Ruz's discourses and interventions accomplished among 1959 and 2006 itself. A nominal group was constituted by expert professors of the pedagogical committee of Mastery in Medical Education from the National School of Public Health, for analysis and discussion of the obtained information. The results were study for its evaluation from Rectors' and Deans' of Medical Education Institutions.
Results: The pronouncements selected in 17 discourses and interventions of Fidel related with professional developing in Medical Education, as well asbasic ideas that they were bearing, as from the ones that were made the integrative ideas and the necessary actions established themselves are up for guaranteeing his fulfillment in educational practice.
Conclusions: The study permitted verifying how the thought of Fidel linked to the development of professional developing in higher medical education and contributed to the increment of quality and the pertinence of formative processes in Cuban medical education.
