OPSI, Peripheral blood smear.

ABSTRACT

The overwhelming post-splenectomy infection (OPSI), is a condition characterized by the development of severe sepsis and septic shock in post-splenectomized patients or in patients with asplenia or hyposplenism. We report the case of a patient with liver transplantation and splenectomy that developed fulminant sepsis secondary to OPSI. In this paper we correlate this pathology with the findings of the peripheral blood smear.
