ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is the first cause of death among cancer patients in the world. Adenocarcinoma is the most frequent histologic subtype of lung cancer. From the different varieties of adenocarcinoma, one of the less frequent subtype is the oncocytic papillary lung cancer. Even though clinical stage at diagnosis is the most important prognostic factor, it has been demonstrated that this subtype has a better prognosis compared to other subtypes of adenocarcinoma, like solid, acinar and micropapillary. It has being recently described an association between oncocytic papillary adenocarcinoma and mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor, which can be used as a targeted treatment option. We describe two cases of patients with primary oncocytic papillary adenocarcinoma of the lung and their treatment.
