ABSTRACT
Objective. This study had the proposal to know the fat mass values in eutrophic and overweight-obesity adolescents and try to identify the lipid profile in both groups.
Material and methods. In 216 adolescents between 10-18 years old: 108 eutrophic and 108 with overweight-obesity were classified by the body mass index (BMI) criteria. Measurements of cholesterol, tryglicerides and lipoproteins were taken. The measurement of body fat mass was made by direct bioelectrical impedance.
Results. In the overweight-obesity group 59 (54.7%) were overweight and 49 (43.7%) had obesity. The systolic blood pressure was higher in obese individuals (p ‹ 0.0001). There was an statistical differences (p ‹ 0.002) in the cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations between both groups; the difference in the C-LDL was in the significant level of p = 0.05. In the overweight-obesity group, there was a body weight-fat-mass correlation coefficient of r = 0.89 (p ‹ 0.01).
Conclusions. The high serum levels of lipids in overweigth group must be taken as an indicator that the risk factors in cardiovascular disease should be taken under control since the adolescense.
