ABSTRACT
Introduction. The acute encephalitis is a diagnostic that challenge to the clinic, is a pathology few common, but with clinics manifestations very well knowledge.
Case report. We present a case of a male child, who had fours years old, he entrance at the hospital with fever and hallucinations, with LCR enough to appear with viral encephalitis. He needed Intensive Cares for hemodynamic and neurology unstable. TAC and RM cerebral was made, both showed cerebral oedema, izquemic lesions and haemorrhagic in the Silvio incision, suggestive of herpetic lesions, for this reason he received aciclovir. Nevertheless he died between thirteen day of hospitalization. The study anatomopathological was compatible with a viral infection of the Central Nervous System discarded lesions for herpesvirus. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was finished positive enterovirus and negative herpesvirus.
Conclusion. Most of the enterovirus infections, particularly Coxsackievirus A are cause of focal acute encephalitis in children’s and adolescents with a good prognostic and complete recovery of the patient, differ with this case, who have a fatal evolution which are describe in the literature in very few cases. For last, is our interest to make known this presentation.
