ABSTRACT

Foreign accent syndrome is a language disorder that occurs most often after a brain injury, suddenly causing a "foreign" accent in a native speaker. It is a rare syndrome in the population, only about 100 cases have been described in the last century, its diagnosis is apparently simple but it is often confused with other language disorders that have motor deficits. Their emotional involvement is also evident, anxiety and depressive disorders frequently appear. The aim of the present work is to present a case of Foreign Accent Syndrome in an older adult after a cerebrovascular accident.
