ABSTRACT

Pleural effusion is used as a catch-all term denoting a collection of fluid within the pleural space. This can be divided into exudates and transudates depending on the biochemical analysis of aspirated pleural fluid . Represents any pathological process which overwhelms the pleura's ability to reabsorb fluid. X- ray in lateral decubitus is the most sensitive radiographic view, and allows to detect quantities of liquid as small as 5 ml.
