Diagnostic study of physical-recreational activities in the Ecuadorian army military academy

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Having a good physical condition is an soldier indispensable requirement, in that sense physical-recreational activities enhance as a substantial part of physical activity key indicators related to stress, physical abilities, socialization and a healthy lifestyle, among others.
Objective: To preliminarily establish a diagnostic study on physical-recreational activities in the Ecuadorian Army military academy.
Methods: The research is exploratory, descriptive and correlational. We study the students population of the General Staff No. 67 (52 subjects), students for promotion to the Lieutenant Colonel rank. A survey (7 questions) was applied using the Likert scale, measuring of satisfaction degree in existing physical-recreational activities.
Results: The average age of the studied population was delimited (45.2), an aspect related to tastes and preferences. It is evidenced that 44.23% perform physicalrecreational activities during physical education hours; 42.31% performed "Sometimes" physical activity in free time, and 32.69% "Often". The respondents considered that in military development, physical-recreational activities are equally important (82.69%), this variable being significantly different from the selected ones rest (p = 0.000); On the other hand, almost all considered that the recreation generates greater motivational attractiveness, being considered its inclusion in the military physical culture plans, being important to generate the necessary physical and recreational spaces, as well as the times and the legal fulfillment of the practical hours.
Conclusions: It was need estimated to unify criteria for the practice of physicalrecreational activities with military preparation schedules. Some shortcomings in planning, meeting schedules for the practice of physical activity and the design of activities were diagnosed, recognizing to action investigated field as a valuable tool to reduce stress and promote other related positive indicators.
