ABSTRACT

Vascular rings are congenital anomalies originating from abnormal development of the components that make the primitive aortic arches in the embryo. The anomalous origin of the left pulmonary artery, known as the hammock of the pulmonary artery is a rare congenital anomaly in which the left pulmonary artery originates from the right pulmonary artery, goes behind the trachea and crosses to the left in front of the esophagus to reach the left pulmonary hilum. In the English-speaking literature it is known as sling; in our language it is called a hammock. We report the case of a 3-year-old girl whose first signs of the disease were dysnea and diaphoresis. Suspicion of a hammock in the left pulmonary artery came from an echocardiogram and the definitive diagnosis from a multislice computed tomography. Multislice computed tomography reveals the diagnosis of heart and vascular anomalies and includes clear views of the airways and gastrointestinal tract.
