ABSTRACT
Introduction: Lemmel syndrome a rare entity, its a symptomatic biliary obstruction caused by a periampullary diverticulum. A clinical case is presented with this entity. Its diagnostic protocol, and operative management is described. Case report: A 71-year-old female without antecedents related to the present illness. Started 18 months ago with recurrent pain on the right hypochondrium associated with intermittent jaundice. Therefore, she is subjected to a laparoscopic cholecystectomy in another hospital unit. However, the patient persisted with jaundice, which is why she was referred to our service. Through ERCP we diagnose a juxta-papillary diverticulum without evidence of choledocholithiasis. Conclusions: Lemmel’s syndrome is a rare entity and its diagnosis requires; in addition to a high index of suspicion, multimodal imaging studies (US, MRI and/or endoscopy, ERCP). The therapeutic decisions focus on achieving an adequate drainage of the bile duct.REFERENCES
