ABSTRACT
The article highlights the importance of scientific research as a medical function, at the same time it particularizes in some basic elements in the process of formation of research competences: career, residence, and doctorate. Various necessary conditions for training researcher doctors which can be considered by individuals in their decision making and by academic institutions as well are presented.
