ABSTRACT

Pregnancy is a natural state in a woman’s life and may be accompanied by complications that could eventually lead to a maternal death or disability. The incidence in Mexico of Maternal Mortality in 2015 was 38 deaths per 100,000 live births. Epidemiological Surveillance at the Ministry of Health began in January 2017. In which Hospital General de Occidente enter this strategy of The Monitoring Unit of Severe Maternal Morbidity “which consists of surveillance and daily notification through the platform of the General Direction of Epidemiology for the capture of cases of patients detected with Severe Morbidity. Objective: Know the incidence of Severe Maternal Morbidity to implement strategies for the adequate care of patients and prevent mortality. Material and Methods: The data of the cases attended at Hospital General de Occidente during the period of January-December 2017 with 128 patients, which were obtained from the platform of Severe Maternal Morbidity of the National Epidemiological Surveillance System of the General Direction of Epidemiology. Results: Patients had an average age of 22 years with a completed high school level in 38.7% of them. They carried out prenatal care in 88.3%, and 73% started it in the first trimester, the Morbidity is presented in the first pregnancy in 45% of patients. The Admission Diagnosis was mild Preeclampsia in 43% of sample. The state at birth is 79.6% wich where live births. Conclusions: The platform of Severe Maternal Morbidity comes to complement Epidemiological Surveillance in hospitalized patients with adequate follow-up.
