ABSTRACT

Phospholipids can get organized in microdomains known as lipid rafts, which are highly dynamic and can, among other functions, work as platforms of receptors to allow signal transduction. sKL is the extracellular domain of a membrane protein and is released under different cellular conditions. In 2017, Dalton and his collaborators reported a brand-new function in cellular signaling: the reorganization of lipid rafts caused by the union of sKL to gangliosides containing sialic acid with a glycosidic bond α2g3.
