ABSTRACT

The aim of this investigation was to analyze the relation between the parenting received in the quality of the young adults couple relationships. Participants were 200 adults with an age range of 21 to 30 years old (136 women and 64 men). Two questionnaries were applied, one for the evaluation of parenting received during childhood and adolescence and another one to assess the couple relationship quality which includes the level of commitment, intimacy, emotional bond and erotic passion. These instruments were applied in a virtual platform; correlation coefficients were used to analyze the data. The results showed that maternal and paternal practice of support and autonomy promotion were associated in a positive way with couple relationships engaged and the feeling of intimacy; on the other side the parental abuse and the psychological control were associated in a negative way with poor couple relationships quality in young adults. It is debated the importance of the first affective experiences in close relationships during the different stages of life.
