ABSTRACT
Adhesion to dentin has been difficult to achieve, but it is clear that adhesion to dentin, would seal the tooth-restorative material interfase, that will eliminate the penetration of bacteria, diminishing the risk for secondary caries, the marginal discoloration and the irreversible damage to the pulp. Several dentin adhesion systems have been developed throug the years, presenting different mechanisms of adhesion, using also diffent approache to obtain adhesion. The different generations of adhesive systems are reviewed to understand the past, present and future of adhesion to tooth structure.
