ABSTRACT

Introduction: Thyroid abscess corresponds to 0.1 to 0.7% of thyroid pathologies. Infectious thyroiditis is associated with persistence of the fourth branchial arch, contiguous or distant infection and immunosuppression. Case report: A 60-year-old man with diabetes, with fever and pharyngitis of 15 days and pain in the neck, pharynx, left ear and left retroauricular zone; erythema in the anterolateral left side of the neck, intense pain on the palpation of the left lobe of the thyroid, supraclavicular region and left ear. Ecography and computed tomography confirmed suppurative thyroiditis with abscess, resolved with antibiotics for 14 days and surgery.
