ABSTRACT
A description is provided of Pedro Kourí Tropical Medicine Institute from its founding in the year 1937 to the present. Reference is made to the changes undergone by the Institute in 1979, when it was revitalized and broadened its profile to cover all communicable diseases (parasitic, bacterial, viral and mycotic) from a research, epidemiological, clinical, entomological and laboratory perspective. At the end of the communication a list is provided of the most relevant national and international scientific results obtained by the institution.
