ABSTRACT
The purpose of this work was to analyze the state of the science on caries risk assessment, in order to provide elements of judgment to the dentist so that he knows how to identify the risk to get sick of his patients and can generate treatment strategies and number of appointments per year recommended for follow-up. In this analysis, some basic concepts about caries are described, the reader is introduced to risk diagnosis and general guidelines are given for the treatment and follow-up of the patient.
