Intervention for the improvement of the organizational climate of nursing

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The Organizational Climate began in the business area since the 20th century, later it transcends the health sector, where contextualisations have been made according to the ethical characteristics and the complexity involved in working with humans.
Objectives: Design an intervention to improve the organizational climate of nursing.
Methods: A research on health systems and services was carried out, through a mixed study of the explanatory sequential type (quantitative-qualitative), in the nursing team of the Pediatric University Hospital "Paquito González Cueto" of Cienfuegos. The study period was from January 2010 to August 2018. In the quantitative phase a pre-experimental study was carried out in which the Organizational Climate Inventory was applied to the study universe of 100 nurses, with the results the intervention was designed, the that was validated with experts prior to the application, one year later it was evaluated with the same diagnostic instrument. In the qualitative phase, an exploratory study was carried out through two focus groups, to investigate the causes of the deviations.
Results: The intervention improved the organizational climate in three of the dimensions (participation, reciprocity and motivation), the causes of the negative persistence of the leadership dimension respond to problems of management, overcoming and communication styles.
Conclusions: The intervention for the improvement of the organizational climate designed from the diagnosis of the deviations and applied with a participative approach constituted establishing favorable actions for the improvement of the dynamics of the nursing team.
