ABSTRACT

Introduction: In chemical emergencies, hospitals are responsible for receiving victims. The mass reception of poisoned persons is triggered, but it is necessary to look on it according to specificities, from the theoretical references.
Objective: To determine the theoretical foundations that sustain the massive reception of poisoned persons in hospitals during chemical emergencies.
Methods: Bibliometric and infometric sources from 2005-2017 were reviewed and analyzed, and the mass reception of poisoned persons in chemical emergencies was determined as object of study. For quality, the hermeneutic method was used for the analysis, comprehension, and criticism of the texts and the reconstruction of new theories. The informal interview was used to finalize the results.
Results: The theoretical conception of the massive reception of poisoned persons, which are derived from chemical emergencies in hospital institutions, is based on general theoretical foundations of chemical emergencies, of casualties with large number of victims; and the general foundations on systems theory.
Conclusions: The sudden nature of chemical emergencies can result in disasters and belong to casualties with large number of victims. The massive reception of poisoned persons has a systemic nature and presents stages such as before reception, during reception and after reception. Hospitals are "functional units" so the overall nature of services and functions must be considered. Toxicological information and monitoring are actions of hospital care. The diversity of traumas can accompany the poisonous condition.
