ABSTRACT

Ciudad Juarez is a city with high rate of violence, from 2006 to 2010, murders increased 20%. During the year, was 2861 murders. The objective of this work is to anayze the anxiety suffered by boys and girls, living in Ciudad Juárez, that have witnessed scences of violence on the streets. To do this, an expo facto research has been done to compare the risk of developing anxiety in child witnesses of violence on the street, against a control group. A sample of 59 boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 12 years old has been selected. Twentynine of them had been a witness on an extremely violent event on the street (robbery, gun fire, people with bullet wounds, quarrels). The remaining 30 were control group. The following instruments were used: Children’s Exposure of Violence questionnaire (CEV), parent’s Ad hoc interview, Screen of Child Anxiety Related Emotional Disorders (SCARED) and Four Index of Social Status. The results show that the scores of the anxiety scale (SCARED) were higher for the study group than for the control group.
