Cardiovascular health in people aged 40-79 years

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Stroke and cardiovascular diseases will be the next epidemics in Cuba due to changes in lifestyle and increased life expectancy. Knowledge of cardiovascular health status of the population is mandatory to implement strategies directed to reduce the burden of vascular diseases.
Objective: To determine the health cardiovascular in people aged 40-79 years.
Methods: In this investigation was carried out a descriptive study , the population were 1 392 patients with age between 40-79 years, without history of cardiovascular disease, during January to June 2017, a random sample of 281 cases were taken, we assessed the cardiovascular health status of participants using the metrics proposed by the American Heart Association.
Results: 34.2 % had ideal, 38.4 % had intermediate and 27.4 % had poor cardiovascular health status status. Poorest markers were physical activity, dietary, and blood pressure. The patients in the age group from 70 to 79 years had the highest prevalence of poor cardiovascular health status in the study series (50 %).
Conclusions: Low prevalence of ideal cardiovascular health. There was a predominance of patients with intermediate cardiovascular health, masculine and subjects under 60 years of age.
