ABSTRACT

Cat scratch disease (CSD) is an infection caused by Bartonella henselae, a Gram negative bacteria. Usually is a benign disease, severe complications such as cutaneous bacillary angiomatosis and hepatic bacillary peliosis may occur in immunocompromised patients. We present the case of an 11 year old girl undergoing immunosuppressive treatment for renal transplantation two years previously. She begins with fever, axillary adenomegaly, and a nodular lesion in the thorax anterior region. Diagnosis was made with serology. Treatment was successful with azithromycin. CSD is an entity that should be suspected in pediatric patients with fever and lymphadenopathy.
