Promoting blood donation given the necessity of obtaining a safe product

ABSTRACT

The promotion of blood donation is an assistance process to choose to be a donor throughout life. The motivations of 5th- year medical students on the promotion of blood donation were evaluated. The impact of the program designed to obtain safe blood was evaluated. At the beginning of the study few students accepted this promotion as a social responsibility, as well as, they did not see it included in their curriculum, or in their actions as social doctors. This reinforced the need for the program design. Once implemented the program, the motivation was increased, and the students' knowledge on this work, who showed sensitivity to the mission of helping from the perspective of contributing to save lives.
