ABSTRACT

A case of a school age patient is presented which enter with abdominal pain simulating acute appendicits that required appendectomy later proved to have acute rheumatic fever with carditis, which produced heart failure and mitral regurgitation. A revision of the epidemiology of the rheumatic fever is made, of the clues of diagnosis and treatment and it is insisted in the value of the thoracic X-ray, electrocardiogram, echocardiogram and acute phase reactants like useful elements in the diagnosis.
