ABSTRACT

Introduction. Nowadays, it is recognized that all professions of the health sciences are affected by the negative consequences of moral suffering, including exhaustion and abandonment of the profession. This type of behavior can be understood by the interaction of various factors such as the institutional and university recognition of specialist training programs, growth opportunities, financial remuneration, the preparation of teachers and physical facilities available in the hospital headquarters.
Material and Methods. A survey was applied to know the current status of neonatology programs in the Mexican Republic from the point of view of the professors of the program.
Results. In our research, we explored the environment of the training centers, the relationship of the institutions with the universities programs and negative indicators in the residents, and we attempted an approach to a broader understanding of the dynamics of work-related stress and the moral affliction of neonatology residents over the past 5 years.
Discussion. Efforts must be doubled so that all universities name and remunerate teachers more fairly, improve facilities in physical and technological infrastructure for the teaching process, increase mental health strategies and healthy lifestyles in residents, and to decrease the addiction to legal (alcohol and tobacco) and illegal drugs.
