ABSTRACT

In 2006, Dr. Miguel Martell wrote an editorial letter entitled" Clinical research: a necessary tool "in which he highlighted the importance of obtaining data in order to give the patient an adequate treatment and obtain the best answer.
Currently science puts first the safety of the patient before obtaining a scientific result. Codes of ethics have been generated in which informed consent is compulsorily involved, so it is important that people engaged in research have historical knowledge of the emergence of informed consent as a mandatory tool. In this article we present the historical evolution of this document and its role in clinical sciences.
