ABSTRACT
Introduction: Ankle fractures are frequent in our environment. The time for labor reintegration is determined by the type of treatment, whether it is a conservative or a surgical treatment, and by the rehabili-tation therapy. Therefore, it is important to grant the days of disability necessary for a full recovery.
Objective: To determine the attachment to guidelines for duration of disability due to injury in patients with ankle fracture in the General Hospital of Zone N° 30 of the Mexican Institute of Social Security in Mexicali, Baja California, during 2015.
Material and method: A descriptive and cross-sectional study in the division of Orthopedics of the General Hospital of Zone N° 30. We included files of patients with ankle fracture diagnosis that generated days of disability during 2015; we analyzed if there was attachment or not to the Disability Duration Guidelines by Pathology.
Results: 63 files were reviewed, of which 48 were from men (76.2%) and 15 from women (23.8%); type B of Weber was the most frequent type of fracture, observed in 30 (47,6%) cases; the most frequent age range was 30-39 years (41.2%). It was determined that there is attachment to guidelines in 36 (57.1%) of the cases.
Conclusions: It was found that in more than the half there is attachment to guidelines, which speaks of the standardization criteria by specialized doctors within the institute.
